Building Safety Fund deadline is fast approaching

The ‘start on site’ recladding deadline is fast approaching

BBS Facades, specialists in full building envelope solutions, is advising contractors to talk to their façade distributor urgently, if they are involved in remediation projects backed by the Building Safety Fund. Back in December 2020, the application period for funds was extended by six months, pushing back the ‘start on site’ date to 30th September 2021.

Our chairman, Peter Johnson, is concerned that some contractors may miss this vital deadline, jeopardising potential work and funds. He said: “While there is some talk in the industry that this deadline may be put back again, we’re encouraging contractors with funded recladding projects to talk to us urgently.

“Any installers with projects on their quote or order books should get in touch with their suppliers now to ensure the lead times are understood and planned. This will help to gain any required flexibility that may be needed from the Ministry of Housing (MHCLG) regarding start dates. It will also give suppliers such as us the best chance in the current environment of helping to meet the existing September deadline.

“While the lead time for most branded A-rated materials, is approximately 12 weeks – there are ways to help get contractors on-site within tight deadlines. Our knowledge of available products could help contractors to amend the initial specification in favour of available A-rated board to allow work to start on time. I’d urge contractors to get in touch with their cladding suppliers now to give them enough time to assess all of the options.”
